Truck Driving Jobs Near Ann Arbor: What to Expect at Classic Carriers
Posted on Posted on:
If you’re driving out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and looking for a change, come talk to us. Classic Carriers is a family-owned trucking company based in Versailles, Ohio — about a three-hour drive south down I-75 — and we’ve been putting drivers on the road for more than 40 years. Here’s what you can expect if you make the switch: pay packages you actually get to choose, a paid training program if you’re new to the industry, benefits that kick in fast and a company that still knows its drivers by name.
Who Is Classic Carriers?
Classic Carriers started the way a lot of good trucking companies do. With one person, one truck and a lot of hard-earned experience. Founder Jim Subler grew up around the business, learning the ropes from his own father from the time he was a kid, working his way up from washing trucks to driving them. That hands-on, know-the-business-from-the-ground-up mentality is still baked into how Classic operates today.
What began as a trucking company has grown into a full-service, asset-based transportation provider with three divisions working under one roof:
- Classic Carriers – our trucking fleet, hauling both dry and refrigerated freight (plus white-glove service for specialty products) to all 48 contiguous states.
- Classic Logistics – our freight brokerage and logistics management arm, coordinating shipments across the U.S. using our own trucks and a network of vetted carrier partners.
- Classic Warehousing – cold and dry storage out of Greenville, Ohio, with more than 2.35 million cubic feet of space for food, pharmaceuticals and more.
We’re still headquartered in Versailles, still family-owned and still small enough that our safety team, dispatch and shop crew know drivers by name instead of by truck number. It’s the reason our driver turnover sits under 30%, well below the industry average. Drivers who come to Classic tend to stay, and a lot of the people you’d talk to on your first day have been here for years.
Here’s what driving for us actually looks like.
Choose Your Own Pay Package
You pick the plan that fits your life:
- Package 1: $0.56 per mile plus accessorials and bonuses, plus medical, vacation and holiday pay, plus per diem, yearly raises and a longevity bonus.
- Package 2: $0.66 per mile plus accessorials and bonuses (no health insurance, vacation or holiday pay), plus per diem and a longevity bonus.
Either way, you’re also picking up layover pay ($150/night), detention pay ($20/hour after the first hour), $150 per holiday, $25 for extra stops and a quarterly safety bonus if you qualify.
Newer to Driving? We’ll Help Train You.
Thinking about a CDL but haven’t earned one yet? Once you’re licensed, Classic pairs you with a hand-picked mentor for an eight-week paid training program. You’ll earn $700 a week while you learn the ropes, guided by someone who’s already logged plenty of miles with us. Finish training and you’re a solo company driver, guaranteed, with pay packages starting between $0.51 and $0.61 per mile. We’ll also help pay you back for the cost of CDL school, up to $7,000 over time, once you’re driving with us.

Why Ann Arbor Drivers Choose Classic
We’re not a call center, and we’re not a number-crunching mega-carrier. When something comes up on the road, you’re talking to a real Classic employee, not a random help desk. Drivers tell us the same thing again and again: they get treated like people, not truck numbers, and if something goes wrong with the rig, the shop team handles it so all they have to worry about is driving. It’s a small company with a close-knit team, and after 40 years, that hasn’t changed.
